Building a Forest Garden, Mud Houses, and Zero Waste Village with Utsow Pradhan

Tiny Farm Friends Ep. 18

Our guest today is a true frontline warrior in the ongoing battle against climate change.

He envisions a world where humanity and the environment coexist in perfect harmony, striving for a shared goal of "Pure Water. Pure Air. Pure Soil. for all beings.

This passionate advocate for ecological balance and sustainability made a life-altering decision, leaving behind an 18-year corporate career to be closer to his roots and answer a higher calling.

Meet Utsow Pradhan.

In 2016, he embarked on a transformative journey and laid the foundation for TIEEDI, a remarkable venture that has since bloomed into an ecological forest training center in the picturesque region of Darjeeling.

TIEEDI's core mission encompasses permaculture, regenerative tourism, natural farming, and sustainable land and building design consultation. Not stopping there, they are deeply engaged in experiential environmental education and holistic waste management projects within the hilly terrain.

" Take it Easy, Easy Does it! "

Abandoned for two decades, it had turned into a dumping ground for the villagers. With remarkable dedication, our guest transformed this wasteland into a thriving paradise through a comprehensive forest restoration initiative.

Starting with natural farming practices and constructing eco-friendly mud huts using sustainable materials like bamboo, wood, grass, and mud, TIEEDI has evolved into an environmental education hub that collaborates with schools in Kurseong and Darjeeling.

Their mission extends beyond, with a commitment to equipping individuals, communities, and institutions with simple yet effective solutions to embrace a zero-waste lifestyle.

TIEEDI has set up composting units across schools, villages, and monasteries in Darjeeling, making a tangible difference in waste management.

On today's podcast, we have the privilege of delving into our guest's profound philosophy of "TIEED" – "Take it easy, Easy does it!"

We explore his compelling journey into the battle against waste and the ingenious creation of decentralized waste management systems.

Together, we ponder why our focus should shift from measuring 'Gross Domestic Product' to 'Gross National Abundance.'
